第五十回 拜寂静婆罗门

Therefore, having relied upon an excellent protector, solidify your certainty about the way that all the scriptures are causal factors for one person to become a buddha.

【◎ 是故应当依善依怙,于其一切正言,皆是一数取趣,成佛支缘。所有道理,令起定解。】


然后呢进入大乘,虽然有很多经典,我们现在《华严》做代表,或者你们自己可以想,各式各样的经典上面都这么说。这个文殊菩萨一再开示善财童子,以及他善财童子不断地参访善知识,随处随地那个善知识也一再开示他,说:“你要成佛啊,要成就一切智智,总要依靠善知识。”那么这个详细的情况到后面说,到后面说。这个是我们修学佛法第一步。

LAM RIM CHEN MO 《菩提道次第广论》

  善财去往法比聚落,见两个童子挽在一起斗殴,难分难解。一童女走来大声喊道:“你等不要打了,寂静婆罗门说过,两个都要被打死。”两童子听了都松开手走了。善财乘机问童女寂静婆罗门住在哪里?童女不答走开了。

  善财只得继续前行,见一农夫挖田埂放水。便问道:“田水放了不怕天干吗?”农夫答道:“寂静婆罗门说今晚有大雨,怕冲断田埂。”善财问寂静婆罗门的住处,他回答就在前面聚落。

  善财走进聚落,见两妇女骂架。一个道:“你把鸡给我毒死了,不赔就要你偿命!”一个道:“你自己打死鸡反怪我,这是混帐!”一个老妪走来说道:“寂静婆罗门说过,最近鸡瘟流行,东家王二嫂还死了几只鸡,怪谁毒死呢?”两个妇女听了都不再骂了。

  善财进了聚落,听见两差交谈。

  甲道:“案情复杂,死者不会自杀的。”

  乙道:“作案线索难找啊!”

  甲道:“寂静婆罗门说一句话,大家就相信了。”

  乙道:“也只有这样了,他是诚实君子,不会说谎的。”

  甲道:“那就只有根据事实,可是我们的老爷如何办呢?”

  乙道:“你我见机行事为妙!”

  善财听在耳里,看在眼里,记在心里,走到聚落头目门前,见众人涌进衙内,也随众人进去。

  大堂上坐著布案三司,下跪死者的母亲,哭著诉道:“我女儿是头目亲自接回衙内,健康无病,突然死去,说是途中遇鬼,望大人为我作主。”

  头目坐在侧面说道:“我自己的妻子遇鬼死了,我心里也难过啊!”说著假惺惺地悲泣著。

  众人听了齐声吼道:“既然头目同夫人一道,夫人遇鬼,为什么你没遇鬼?没有死去呢?”

  有人说:“请寂静婆罗门来说一句,我们就相信了。”

  头目说:“寂静婆罗门就在里面,请他出来作证吧!”

  寂静婆罗门蓬著长发,身著纳衣,手捧包袱,徐徐来到堂上,向众人施了一礼,慢慢地说道:“头目夫人情深意重,为头目生儿育女。可是年老色衰,不称头目之心。王家幺女花容月貌,与头目鬼混一年有馀。夫人多次劝阻,头目不听。张三一案,头目从中谋黄金十斤,不了了之。头目私藏兵器,里通外国,谋叛国家。此案发生,民众共愤,请我出庭作证,邪说遇鬼,谢我黄金一斤,细衣十件。”说完将包袱打开,高高举起,说道:“这就是证据。”

  语音一落,群情愤怒,高喊道:“拿下头目治罪,以镇国法!”布案三司将惊堂木一拍,命拿下头目,众人见案情澄清,纷纷散去。

  善财急忙上前施礼,婆罗门不知何事,倒退两步。善财说道:“我名善财,文殊师利教我发菩提心,参拜善知识。今见婆罗门如此刚正不阿,乃圣人也。望圣者慈悲教我,如何才能做到这一点?”

  婆罗门扶起善财道:“我只知诚实,不懂虚伪。做事光明磊落,内心坦诚无私,应当做的事都做,只要是正大光明,弄虚作假不为,哪怕你是权贵名门。因此群众相信我。别人的苦难乃是我之苦难,群众的屈辱乃是我之屈辱。这样你就有无穷的力量。”

  善财道:“你刚才的作证,不怕头目报复吗?”

  婆罗门道:“怕报复你就别作证,有大众、有天理,我怕什么呢?”

  善财佩服婆罗门的胆识,还想再问究竟。婆罗门说:“我一老实人,什么也不懂,只是有胆量,不畏权贵,与众人心连心。你要学什么好东西,到妙意华门城去,找德生童男和有德童女吧!”说完转身就走。

  善财想:寂静婆罗门胆量过人,关心大众,老幼都尊重他,听从他,这不是简单能做得到的,必须尽个人的毕生修练才能做到大众与自己不单是心连心,而且是一个心。大众即自己,自己即大众,自己与大众融为一体。

  善财离开聚落,往妙意华门城的路走去。

  渐次南行,诣彼聚落,见最寂静,礼足围绕,合掌恭敬,于一面立,白言:“圣者!我已先发阿耨多罗三藐三菩提心,而未知菩萨云何学菩萨行?云何修菩萨道?我闻圣者善能诱诲,愿为我说!”

  婆罗门答言:

  “善男子!我得菩萨解脱,名:诚愿语;过去、现在、未来菩萨,以是语故,乃至于阿耨多罗三藐三菩提,无有退转,无已退、无现退、无当退。

  “善男子!我以住于诚愿语故,随意所作,莫不成满。善男子!我唯知此诚语解脱。如诸菩萨摩诃萨,与诚愿语,行止无违,言必以诚,未曾虚妄,无量功德因之出生;而我云何能知能说?

  “善男子!于此南方,有城名:妙意华门;彼有童子,名曰:德生;复有童女,名为:有德。汝诣彼问:菩萨云何学菩萨行、修菩萨道?”

  时,善财童子于法尊重,礼婆罗门足,绕无数匝,恋仰而去。

Shivaragra

Then Sudhana made his way to Dharma village and called on the brahmin Shivaragra. Paying his respects, he said, “Noble one, I have set my mind on supreme perfect enlightenment, but I do not know how an enlightening being is to learn and carry out the practice of enlightening beings. I hear you give enlightening beings instruction, so please tell me how to learn and carry out the practice of enlightening beings.”

Shivaragra said, “I act on a vow of truth, that as by truth, by speaking truth, there has never been, is not now, and never will be, a single enlightening being who has turned away from supreme perfect enlightenment, who is turning away, or who will turn away, by that vow of truthful speech this work of mine may succeed. So whatever I wish comes to fruition. By this vow of truth, I accomplish all my tasks. It is this vow of truth that I know. How can I know the practice or tell the virtues of the enlightening beings whose words and deeds mutually accord in truth?

“South of here is a city called Sumanamukha, where there live a boy named Shrisambhava and a girl named Shrimati. Go ask them how an enlightening being is to learn and carry out the practice of enlightening beings.”

Then, with great reverence for the Teaching, Sudhana paid his respects to the brahmin Shivaragra and left.
