第四十六回 拜贤胜优婆夷

Therefore, having relied upon an excellent protector, solidify your certainty about the way that all the scriptures are causal factors for one person to become a buddha.

【◎ 是故应当依善依怙,于其一切正言,皆是一数取趣,成佛支缘。所有道理,令起定解。】


然后呢进入大乘,虽然有很多经典,我们现在《华严》做代表,或者你们自己可以想,各式各样的经典上面都这么说。这个文殊菩萨一再开示善财童子,以及他善财童子不断地参访善知识,随处随地那个善知识也一再开示他,说:“你要成佛啊,要成就一切智智,总要依靠善知识。”那么这个详细的情况到后面说,到后面说。这个是我们修学佛法第一步。

LAM RIM CHEN MO 《菩提道次第广论》

  善财来到摩竭提国婆旦那城,入得城来,见一个清净庄严的住所。虽在城内,而听不到喧哗声。宅后一片广大的园林,园林内胜植桑竹果木。贤胜优婆夷是一个中年妇女,坐在华堂之上闭目养神。善财上前施礼,右绕三匝,说道:“圣者,我已发菩提心,利乐有情造福人间,前来参拜善知识,愿圣者慈悲教诲。”

  优婆夷端坐不动,眼也不睁,慢条斯理地说道:“你走了那么多地方,参拜了那么多善知识者,学到那么多道理,增长那么多智慧,我能有什么教你呢?”

  善财见此神情,更加恭敬,怕象众艺童子那样引起误解,到优婆夷面前长跪合掌,至诚说道:“我是虔诚求教,愿善知识慈悲教诲。”

  优婆夷要显示她的功底,不正面答复,指著东边墙壁道:“东边墙角蚂蚁在争斗,你把那碗水拿去浇散它们。”

  善财端起碗,走到东墙角一看,果然一大堆黑黄蚂蚁,相斗得难分难解,都互不相让,有咬断腿的,有咬断腰的,凄惨万状。善财将水浇去,蚂蚁各自奔跑,免去了这一场斗打之灾。

  善财回到优婆夷身边,优婆夷又道:“你听见吗?后面蚕房的蚕儿,桑叶吃完了,正在叫饿。你把那筐桑叶拿去倒给他们吃吧。”

  善财把桑叶筐拿到后面蚕房一看,啊!好大的蚕房呀!架上置满蚕簸,簸箕内蚕儿伸头等食。善财将桑叶撒到蚕簸箕内。真奇怪,小小一筐桑叶,将所有蚕簸都撒遍。

  善财回到优婆夷身边,优婆夷又说:“那些淘气的孩子,想从后面翻墙进来偷我的苹果。你去摘几个给他们,叫他们走大门进来。”

  善财走到后面果园一看,一树树丰硕的苹果好不爱人,摘了几个从大门出去,转过后面,果然看到几个孩子在那里搭肩翻墙。善财道:“优婆夷知道你们在翻墙想偷苹果,命我摘来送给你们,叫你们走大门进去。”

  几个小孩面面相觑道:“优婆夷真厉害呀!”接过苹果,背著桑叶,随善财来到优婆夷面前,交了桑叶,领了工钱。优婆夷说: “你们翻墙不好,若不注意会摔断腿的,这太危险了,是大不应该做的事。”孩子们说一声:“是。”便欢喜地跳跃而去。

  优婆夷对善财说:“我每天练习我的眼,能明察秋毫;练习我的耳,能听复杂的声音;练习我的鼻,能嗅不同的气息;练习我的舌,能尝酸甜苦辣,有毒无毒,有无资身效益的味。我能体察人的各种心理。因此,凡来我处的人,都不起心,心地善良,满意而去。”

  优婆夷说到这里,稍停一会,又道:“你等一等,我去取午饭与你吃。”

  优婆夷下了宝座,转入后房,端出两碗平常的小菜和粥。善财接过品尝,真是美味佳肴,胜过所有的珍馐。优婆夷道:“我是一个普通家庭妇女,养养蚕、种种小菜、果树,料理家务。虽然这是些小事,我把它当作人生大事在做。首先在思想上下功夫,得到心地清净,然后遍及六根。见到别人看不见的东西,听得到人们听不清的声音。以我自己的清净心,照见无边法界的众生。我虽处于闹市之中,但却是一个清净场所。所以到我这里来的人,都能得到不同的利益。人们把城的名字都改成婆旦那,是有增益的意思。而你所说的利乐有情,造福人间的学问,我很惭愧。不过我可以介绍你到沃田城去,找坚固解脱长者,他可以告诉你。”

  善财听后,心生欢喜,右绕数匝,顶礼拜辞而去。

  向聚落城,至贤胜所,礼足围绕,合掌恭敬,于一面立,白言:“圣者!我已先发阿耨多罗三藐三菩提心,而未知菩萨云何学菩萨行?云何修菩萨道?我闻圣者善能诱诲,愿为我说!”

  贤胜答言:

  “善男子!我得菩萨解脱,名:无依处道场;既自开解,复为人说。又得无尽三昧,非彼三昧法有尽、无尽,以能出生一切智性眼无尽故,又能出生一切智性耳无尽故,又能出生一切智性鼻无尽故,又能出生一切智性舌无尽故,又能出生一切智性身无尽故,又能出生一切智性意无尽故,又能出生一切智性功德波涛无尽故,又能出生一切智性智慧光明无尽故,又能出生一切智性速疾神通无尽故。

  “善男子!我唯知此无依处道场解脱。如诸菩萨摩诃萨一切无著功德行,而我云何尽能知说?

  “善男子!南方有城,名为:沃田;彼有长者,名:坚固解脱。汝可往问:菩萨云何学菩萨行、修菩萨道?”

  尔时,善财礼贤胜足,绕无数匝,恋慕瞻仰,辞退南行。

Bhadrottama

Then Sudhana went to Vartanaka city in the region of Kevalaka, where he called on the laywoman Bhadrottama. Paying his respects to her, he said, “Noble one, I have set my mind on supreme perfect enlightenment, but I do not know how an enlightening being is to learn and carry out the practice of enlightening beings. I hear you give enlightening beings instruction, so please tell me how to learn and practice.”

She said, “I know and teach a doctrine called ‘baseless sphere’ and have attained a concentration of mystic empowerment. In that concentration there is no foundation of any phenomenon whatsoever. Therein is produced the mystical empowerment of the eye of omniscience, the mystical empowerment of the ear of omniscience, the mystical empowerment of the nose of omniscience, the mystical empowerment of the tongue of omniscience, the mystical empowerment of the body of omniscience, the mystical empowerment of the mind of omniscience, the mystical power of the waves of omniscience, the mystical power of the lightning of omniscience, the mystical power of the flood of omniscience, spheres illumining the world.

It is this doctrine of the baseless sphere that I know. How can I know all the unobstructed, unattached practices of enlightening beings? Go south—there is a city called Bharukaccha, where there lives a goldsmith named Muktasara. Go ask him how an enlightening being is to learn and carry out the practice of enlightening beings.”

So then Sudhana paid his respects, took his leave, and departed.
